Nail Technicians and Beauty Techs, take full advantage of the beauty industry. Just because you are a nail tech or cosmetologist doesn't mean that's all you do! The beauty industry is a big opportunity to get into other money making ventures.
If you're good at nail art, for example, why not make a video displaying some of your unique work and post to You Tube? Creating a video of your work helps you market yourself and your services. There's nothing like giving people visual proof to back up what you say you can do!
Also, with video you can brand yourself as an expert and leader in your industry! People will come to respect your knowledge and creativity and look to you as a "guru" in beauty. This is how you separate yourself from the crowd, get noticed and mark your place in the industry as the Best!
Getting Started With YouTube
Uploading video's to YouTube is simple ! Just go to www.YouTube.com and sign up for an account. Again use all the helpful info there to get started.
When making your video, make sure you have good lighting and the sound quality is good. Before you upload your video to YouTube, it's a good idea to edit it using Windows Movie Maker if you are using a Windows PC or if you have a Mac, iMovie is really great for editing. Both of these softwares are Free with your computer. This will allow you to add effects, music, titles and more to your videos for a cool effect! I want to mention that this is the way to get started. As you grow and get more into making videos you'll want to upgrade and buy software that will really make your videos pop and very professional looking.
When your video is ready to be uploaded make sure to give it a title that is catchy and use descriptive keywords that your video is about. So if your video is about nail art designs, make sure that "nail art designs" is part of your title. This way your video will come up in Youtube search results when people are surfing the internet for "nail art designs". Yes, this is a good way to get good rankings with the search engines and help people find you on the internet!
Directing Traffic to Your website (or social media site) & Getting a lot of Views:
Once you have uploaded your video to Youtube, the next step is to start promoting your video. Do this by sharing your videos with everyone you know. This includes friends, family, all your Facebook and other social media followers and others you come in contact with. Send them a link via a status post, email or text and tell them to take a look at your cool video and "like" and /or leave a great comment and subscribe. Also tell them to share it with their friends too! Of course your video should be worth sharing, so show some of your best work! This will get you in front of a lot of people and get you a lot of exposure, plus help you immediately get your "views" up.
Your goal will be to get as many views to your video as possible and getting people to subscribe to your Youtube channel. Once you start to get a lot of views and subscribers, this is where all the magic happens.
As mentioned earlier, Youtube is a great way to get your name and business out there. So the more views you have, the more exposure you are getting and the more people will be clicking on your links. This equals more opportunities for you to make money.
When it comes to subscribers, this is like having an "email list" within Youtube. Everytime you put out a video, your subscribers will be notified. Every video is another opportunity for exposure and to make money.
There are always more advance techniques for getting Youtube views, so as I always say, do your research. I can't go over everything here. But I will caution you, whatever you do NEVER EVER BUY YOUTUBE VIEWS that will surely get you banned.
Making Money with Youtube
Youtube opens the door to make money from the traffic you send to your website/social sites. You will find as you start to get visitors to your video, they will also check out your website/social sites too as long as you have you links posted. I can't tell you how many videos I've seen where people give out great information, but do not give there website address. They are losing a lot of leads, potential clients and money. Always, Always include your website link at the very least.
Your video's should provide valuable information that your viewers can benefit from. This is key to getting them interested in you and your business. Never try to do a "hard sell" or make your video look like an advertisement. Let your work sell it self. It's ok to mention " visit my site if you are interested in any of the products I used" or "connect with me on Instagram" so your visitors can get more information on how to get your products or services.
The key is to do it in a way that isn't like a pushy sales person. Tell them like you would tell a friend about your products and services. Just make sure your website address is clearly shown in your video, on your Youtube Channel and in your video description box.
You make money when the Youtube traffic starts to visit your sites and make purchases and/or come in for service.
How it works is, once your vistor from Youtube goes to your site, they can purchase nail art supplies, DvD's of your tutorials, purchase your custom wigs, and more from your site should you offer that. And while they are there they just might come across some of your fabulous pictures and be enticed to have you do their nails (or other beauty service). The idea is to turn some of those visitors coming from Youtube into buying customers, clients if they are local, or to get them to sign up to your email list so that you can market to them later ( see email marketing post).
Other ways to Make Make Money with Youtube:
1. You can also make money with Youtube by becoming a Youtube Partner. This is when Youtube will display ads on your video's. When this happens you get paid every time someone clicks on the ad. Of course, the person clicking can't be you or your friends. They have their way of detecting fraudulent clicks, not that you would click your own ads, just saying don't do it because they will ban you. I'm a Youtube Partner and it's no problem as long as you follow the rules and the extra $dollars you make is cool!
You can sign up to be a Youtube Partner or Youtube will invite you to become a Partner. Check the Youtube site for more information on this.
2. You can also make money with Youtube by posting a link to a website that will pay you a commission everytime someones buys something from their site. This is called being an Affiliate. Let's say you Signed up with Sigma Beauty to be an affiliate. They will pay you about 15% commission for every sale that is made from your efforts. You simply post a link in your Youtube description box that they give you, every time someone clicks the link and buys something you get paid! Well talk more on being an affiliate in other posts.
3. Some beauty techs on Youtube have landed some really good business deals. Such as JulieG who was offered her on nail polish line called "JulieG" in Rite Aide stores. There has been numerous success stories like this coming from Youtube. If you are serious take time to really get to know Youtube. Even if you don't land a deal like that, you will be getting a ton of offers from companies wanting you to review their products for money. Keep in mind, however, this usually happens after you have built a huge following on Youtube.
Let me mention this: Don't get caught up in trying to have a million views. I have found you can do well with a smaller base of loyal fans following you on youtube. If your goal is to have a million views or even a hundred thousand, it's very much doable if you are willing to put in the work and be consistent with putting out video's.
Become a part of the YouTube community by networking with other like minded individuals on Youtube. Become "friends" with them and they in turn will become your "friend"(on most occasions). Post comments on other's Youtube video's. This will help to get you even more exposure when people see your comments on different video's.
As you gain popularity on Youtube, you will develop a following of people that will eagerly wait for your next video. The idea is to create relationships. After you have created relationships with your followers, Some will buy from you when you have something to sell and some will come in to see you for service.
Avoid Copywrite issues
Another key point to keep in mind is, if you are using music in your video, make sure you do not violate any copyright laws. All music must be your own royalty free music. YouTube may remove or disable audio in your video making your video lifeless if they find you are using music you do not own. So make sure your music is your own and you have the right to use it. For example, you can't use MaDonna's song "4 Minutes", as you do not own the copyright to that song. Ok?
Youtube has added some nice video editing features too that will allow you to ad royalty free music to your video with ease, so take that route if needed. You can also purchase hot , funky, jazzy beats online as well if there's a certain feel you want to give your video musically.
Yes there are some folks violating the copywrite law on Youtube, but eventually it may catch up. so just do it right the first time.
Spruce up Your Youtube Channel
Change your Youtube background to something that is fun, exciting and reflects what you do. This will attract people , keep them interested and make you look like you are serious about the business of beauty.
You've probably noticed a lot of people on Youtube have really spruced up their channel with really nice Youtube banners and thumbnails that really showcase their business. This is actually really easy to do using a free program called PicMonkey. I love PicMoney for designing everything. I suggest you go over to youtube and find videos on how to make a Youtube banner and thumbnail using PicMonkey. You can also click the links above to be taken to a video showing you how to do this.
Lastly, Do no leave your profile blank. Write a nice profile about your salon, beauty business, what you specialize in, and successes without giving away any personal information. People visiting your Youtube channel will need to know more about you. So having a nice profile set up, is like having a representative or sales person working for you 24/7. This is how you build credibility and further brand yourself as a top beauty tech.
Be Consistent for Success
Once you start making video's, You will need to have a schedule as to when you will put out new videos. For instance you can do 2 a week or even every Friday for example. If you think about t.v. shows, you know they come on every week, so folks can follow along and know when to expect the new show to come on. Likewise, you'll need to have a similar concept about putting out your video's. The more consistent you are the better you will do, the more you will grow.
YouTube can be a goldmine for finding new clients, making money and promoting your website. You don't have to promote nail art, maybe you have another unique talent or product that is worthy of YouTube! You can be as creative with this as you wish. The more creative you are the better you will do. Be unique and stand out from the others.
This is how you get your name and business out there and brand yourself as the best!
You never know who you might connect with on the web. There are many others with the same interest out there, so always aim to make great informative videos that will catch peoples attention.
